The major political news today is that uberconservative televangelist Pat Robertson, host of the 700 Club, has endorsed Rudy Giuliani for President. Robertson is considered radical by all: he once claimed that God caused 9/11 to show his anger about gays. Gail Collins has an interesting editorial on it:
"Back in mid-2001, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani was busy committing adultery, lurching into his divorce and third marriage and rooming with a gay couple he promised to marry as soon as the law allowed, who among us would have imagined that one day he would be endorsed for president by Pat Robertson? Truly, Sept. 11 changed everything."

Giuliani, whose liberal social positions have hurt him with the GOP base, can give this endorsement as evidence that social conservatives can accept him. This is, however, questionable. We will have to wait and see.
