Open Letter to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

Dear Senator Clinton,
I am a student, a blogger, and an ardent Democrat. As I look at the Democratic field for the 2008 election, I am faced with certain choices. The issue of universal health care, especially for children, is very important for me, as I attended an inner-city public school where 25% of the kids had untreated asthma. As I examine your history, I am impressed by your continuing support of health care. However, both of your major opponents, Senators Barack Obama and John Edwards, have released excellent health care plans.

Mrs. Clinton, I speak for millions of Democrats around the country when I say: I would like to support you, but cannot until you have demonstrated that you, more so than your opponents, will be able to improve the health care situation in this country. The same is true for energy policy and taxes. Edwards has plans. Obama has plans. Paul Krugman wrote that both of theirs are excellent. I have no doubt that, should you release a plan, it would be effective. Until this time, though, I feel that I must support the candidate who has converted my deeply held feelings on important issues into tangible, passable legislation.

This is THE direct cause of your (relative) lack of internet support. In national polls you are leading by huge numbers, but do not be fooled. In 2000, Al Gore decided to ignore his primary opponent, Bill Bradley, and soon lost the national lead to him. In order to come back to win Iowa, Gore had to prove to the nation that he had the policy that Democratic primary voters wanted.

Thus, I call on you to release detailed plans on topics of national concern. Only then will you be undefeatable.

Sincerely,
The Young Sentinel

Just to play the devil's advocate, (guess who I am) I don't think that we need more comprehensive detailed plans. Big specific plans will only bog down the candidates and cause them to lose touch with the common voter.

The common voter doesn't really care about how many billion dollars go to healthcare, they just want something done about healthcare. Support a candidate based on their vision, and let their lackeys figure out the specifics.
