Book Review: The Wrecking Crew

by Eyck Freymann
Thomas Frank, author of What's the Matter with Kansas, did it again with The Wrecking Crew. Kansas concerns the political psychology of middle America and why it has shifted strongly towards the GOP in the past three decades. Combining insightful analysis with a powerful ability to evoke accurate and memorable images, Frank has emerged as one of the nation's premier political thinkers.

The Wrecking Crew serves as a perfect counterpart to Kansas, showing the reader the vast cultural differences between Washington and the heartland. The reader travels from lobbyist headquarters to the sprawling acres of newly build mansions in northern Virginia that house Our Nation's Lobbyists.

What's the Matter with Kansas was a work of genius, cutting through the muck to reveal the Republican ideology at its core. Although The Wrecking Crew does contain certain repetitive elements, it complements the first to together form a compelling portrait of what our political system has become.

A majority of people in the nation are denominations of Christian religions. This explains why they are mostly center-right. They think Abortion is morally wrong. They think that the Pledge of Alleigance shouldn't be abolished. And, for the most part, they don't mind statues/images of key religious people in their everyday life.
The liberals have taken a much more extreme view on those, which is driving people away.
