McCain's Baggage

(From MoveOn.org)
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."

3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.

Ten things you should know about Obama, but probably dont.
1. His entire experience is only 3 years of being senator
2. His pastor, the same pastor which headed the church where he attended 20 years of his life, is well known for anti american, anti italian, and overall bigotry.
3. He was the #1 most liberal senator in the ENTIRE senate
4. He was the only senator in the entire senate to vote for giving an easier sentence for sex offenders!
5. He will raise the current tax bill by almost $900 billion. Some of the items this will be spent on are his failed universal healthcare idea and his economic "stimulus" package
6. He supports giving illegal immigrants driver's licenses
7. He wants to take our troops immediately out of Iraq, leaving us more susceptible to terrorist attacks.
8. He opposes drilling in ANWR, which would create 500,000 new jobs, and generate 10 billion barrels of oil, reducing our dependency on foreign oil.
9. He favors the murder of innocent children who cannot speak for themselves, aka abortion saying "it is generally a decision a women should make.
10. He opposes the Fair Tax.

Ten Responses:
1. He will have had 4 years in the Senate and 8 in the Illinois State Senate. That's as much as Lincoln had.

2. I'm not defending his pastor. I am saying that one can condemn anyone by association. McCain campaigned with a preacher who called Catholicism a 'false religion' and has made repeated remarks similar in offensiveness to Obama's.

3. Yes, that is true according to National Journal's ratings. Is that such a bad thing? Bush's conservatism clearly hasn't done the country or the world much good.

4. I'm not familiar with the contents of the bill, and I usually don't like to pass judgment on such things before reading them.

5. 900 Billion? Where did you get that? Barack Obama believes that all Americans, especially children, should be given the right to basic medical care even if they can't afford to pay for it. As someone who knows several uninsured kids, I can assure you that his plan is much needed. McCain wouldn't even be able to get coverage under his own plan. As for the stimulus package, in case you didn't McCain has one too! Bush's war has cost us 600 Billion dollars and has destabilized the region and the world. We've amassed a record deficit and McCain admits that he knows little about economics. Don't go there.

6. We can't hide from the fact that we have illegals living in our country. America has been the great country that it has been because of immigrants. You're ancestors were immigrants as well.

7. Obama wants to end the occupation, to transfer power over to the Iraqi government, making the Iraqis take control of their own futures. We will then begin a timed removal of occupying forces within several months. Residual forces will remain depending on the progress made. If you, like John McCain, want to stay in Iraq for "TEN MILLION YEARS", then fight the war yourself.

8. Obama understands that destroying our pristine wilderness to provide business for the oil companies is not a viable option. While regular Americans are suffering from record gas prices, the oil companies are raking in record profits. Lee Raymond, ExxonMobil's CEO, got a 100 million + dollar retirement contract. Let's focus on developing alternative energies such as wind and solar. Unless you want ten more Exxon Valdez nightmares...

9. I'm not getting into this issue. I understand that many are pro-life for religious reasons, but I have strong opinions about this. I'm not getting into a religious argument.

10. The so-called "Fair Tax" amounts to a 40% sales tax, which undeniably hurts the lower and middle classes. A truly fair tax would be an increase in inheritance taxes for multimillion dollar estates or a luxury tax. Raising the burden on working class Americans isn't going to help our economy. But then again, McCain doesn't know that much about it anyway.

1) But you elude the fact that he didnt. He rushed head on into the presidency with 3 years under his belt. (mike huckabee on the other hand had 10 1/2 years executive experience as governor and should be our president :( )
2)-----ended----
3) Yes it is. Beleive it or not, not that many people are confortable with radical liberalism. Including moderate dems, independents, republicans, and conservatives. The only reason he has made it thus far is because he speaks nonsense well.
4) (SB 485 1999) Thats the name of the bill.
5) Visit my site and I explain it all. http://mysite.verizon.net/resz9uuq/baneoftheyoungsentinel/id1.html
6)The United States is a nation of laws. And, illegal immigrants are criminals. Hence, ILLEGAl immigrants. Anybody that is not obeying the laws of legal immigration is breaking federal laws and should be considered an enemy of the U.S. Besides illegal immigrants have cost us over 400 billion.
7) Like the liberal media you blow what McCain said out of proportion. He said we have to have a foothold in such a dangerous country. For if we pull out now, the entire invasion and loss of 4000 lives would have been in vain.
8) I think you fail to see the fact that drilling in Alaska is probably the best option for reducing our dependency on foreign oil. 75% of alaskan residents voted for drilling in ANWR. Why? Becuase ANWR would create around 250,000- 735,000 new jobs, thereby stimulating the economy which was damaged during Clintons last term. We would also receive around 10 billion barrels of oil.
9) Just to clear up, no one should have the right to choose murder
10) Over 50% Of taxes is paid by the upper middle class and upper class. Obama wants to create class warfare which is very detrimental to our economy and our country.

Oh by the way, this whole Clinton/Obama thing is Hilarious!
I remember a few months ago when Time magazine had an issue with the cover that said "This space available" and depicting GOP elephants around it. Well now that John McCain is the clear front runner and obama and hillary are tearing eachothers throats out, i think we might have 4 years of McCAIN

John McCain: War Hero
Barack Obama: Talk Hero
Hillary Clinton: GOP Hero
