Western Sahara Negotiates

Western Sahara, a territory of Morocco on the Atlantic west of Algeria and Mauritania, has been fighting for independence for over thirty years. The pro-independence Polisario Front will finally meet with Moroccan leaders today through Wednesday to discuss the future of the country. Al Jazeera (which I read for balance, but often has the only articles on important happenings in the Islamic world) reports.

Note: The UN Security Council voted in October sign a non-binding resolution saying that the two parties should resume talks. This was a major achievement at the Security Council, where five nations: US, UK, France, China, and Russia all have veto power. They so rarely have something that they all agree on that they should be congratulated.

(For the record: I think that the very concept of the Security Council is fundamentally flawed. And, as you may have noticed, I do not think very highly of non-binding resolutions.
